As I have mentioned many times, my skin is extremely sensitive and usually oily beyond belief. If you live in Southern California as I do, you know how the weather fluctuates this time of year. One day it is 80 degrees and you’re sweating, the next it is 50 degrees and your skin doesn’t have a drop of moisture. My poor skin has been going crazy, breaking out regularly and feeling drier than bone. Because of the breakouts, I had been using my favorite blemish treatment which is simply baking soda and purified water (more on that another day). This dries out the blemishes but, due to the weather, had also been drying my skin out even more so. I knew that I needed not only a good exfoliant for the dry skin, but also some extra moisture.
My favorite product for this exact purpose is the Frank Body Scrub:
This is such an amazing product, and they have a few different versions. It is a coffee scrub, which is already amazing for the skin because caffeine stimulates blood flow, and coffee scrubs are known to eliminate cellulite, stretch marks, psoriasis, varicose veins, eczema, acne and scarring. Each blend includes vitamin e, which we all know is great for hydrating the skin and healing scars, blemishes, and even stretch marks. The particular blend that I bought this time was their newer Cacao Body Scrub, which contains brown sugar and crushed walnut shell for a tougher exfoliation, which I certainly needed! It of course also includes cacao extract, which is known for the rich antioxidant content for overall clearer and brighter skin. In addition to this already rich blend of ingredients, it contains almond and macadamia oils to repair and nourish the skin, calm inflammation, and even out pigmentation. And the best part of all of this? It can be used on your face as well as your entire body, for all over smoother and healthier looking skin.
For the best results, use in the shower after you have already washed your skin. You want to make sure that any dirt and excess oil is removed first so that your skin can absorb the moisture and nutrients from the scrub, and you don’t remove them by washing after. A handful of product is enough to do more than half of your body, if not all, you don’t need thick layers for it to be effective. I usually turn my shower off during this part, to save water since it can take a few minutes and I don’t want to rinse it off right away. Using small bits at a time, I work it in soft circular motions making sure not to scrub too hard. I start with my face, bring it down my neck and onto my chest, shoulders, and arms.
I then work my way down to my feet, making sure to concentrate on problem areas (i.e. the stretch marks on my belly and thighs, my shoulders which get very dry and itchy, etc). I also make sure to work my legs and armpits after I shave, to eliminate ingrown hairs. Take your time so that all of the oils have time to absorb, you can even leave it on for ten minutes or so after you’ve applied. Then simply rinse off, making sure to get all of the coffee grounds off of the skin. You’ll want to pat dry with your towel, as wiping the skin can remove moisture but will also remove some of the oils and nutrients that are on the skin’s surface.
Just after a single use, my skin looks far more hydrated and healthier! All of my dead skin has been removed, and my whole body is feeling relief from the itchiness caused by the weather.
Now as you may know, exfoliants should only be used intermittently because they can be too harsh on the skin if used every day. On average, once a week should be sufficient. I would say twice a week would be fine in extreme cases, but only with certain products such as this one. So for the washes in between scrubs, I purchased the Creamy Face Cleanser which is also coffee based. But rather than using the grounds, this uses the Green Coffee Bean Extract, so you get the benefits from the caffeine without the exfoliant. It also contains charcoal, which we all know is popular in face products due to the ability to absorb impurities from the skin. It also contains antioxidants, which means that it helps to repair, sooth, and brighten the skin. Marshmallow root and Echinacea extract reduce inflammation, puffiness, and irritation while helping to repair dry or damaged areas by creating a protective barrier on the skin that also aids in the healing of blemishes and scars. And lastly, it contains coconut, almond, and grape seed oils which are all extremely beneficial for the skin. Coconut oil is used as an anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and antibacterial, which allows it to help treat blemishes and skin infections. Almond and grape seed oils contain linoleum acid, which helps to tighten and tone skin, as well as even out pigmentation. Rich in vitamins and minerals, all of these oils are perfect for hydrating the skin and soothing irritation without blocking pores. Some of the additional skin loving ingredients are shea butter, vitamin e, citric acid, and even Patchouli oil. And the cleanser is gentle enough that it can be used every day, morning and night!
I have used it a few times so far, and noticed that my skin didn’t feel immediately dry after as it does with some face washes. It felt clean, and after a few uses definitely looked brighter! My skin is loving the combination of the two products, used with my favorite goats milk moisturizer which I buy from Etsy. My breakouts have been clearing up, and I have been noticing the appearance of blackheads is also diminishing. Like any routine change, solid results come from regular use. Having only been using these for about a week, I know that my skin will only continue to get better.
And to top it all off, they just released a lip scrub and balm! Be still my beating heart!
A bit about Frank Body:
If you are unfamiliar with this brand, I recommend getting acquainted as soon as possible! From their amazing line of products to their cheeky advertising, this is a company that I love to support! They are based out of/made in Australia, but they have distributors/warehouses here in the US for quick delivery. Plus they offer free shipping on their already very affordable products!
Their products are vegan and contain mostly natural/organic ingredients, no parabens, PEGS, phthalates, sulphates, silicones, mineral oil, glycols, DEA, or TEA. Perfect for use on women, men, and even children!
Their tagline is “Get Dirty”, which I find to be hilarious. They use slogans like “You have to get dirty to get clean”, and in their emails and ads they talk like you’re being seduced by a new (sometimes sleazy) lover. I think it adds a bit of fun to the product, because honestly you are getting naked with it! Perhaps others are not as taken by the marketing and imagery that the company uses, but I find that it fits with the raw nature of the product and I believe it is effective for their company. They celebrate all people, and I love looking through the images in their social media.
In addition to all of this, the company supports charities such as Charity Water. Right now they are doing a campaign called #getdirtyforcleanwater, and they sent out the adorable shower caps that you see me wearing in the image above. For each picture posted wearing the cap, tagged with the #getdirtyforcleanwater hashtag, they donate $1 to the charity. The company is still fairly small, so even the $1 per picture is awesome! So far there are close to 800 adorable submissions, including men, women, babies, and even doggies!
I can definitely get behind a company that not only makes spectacular products, but also gives back where it is so desperately needed.
So give Frank a chance, you won’t regret it!
