As you will probably see me mention a million times, I am allergic to everything under the sun. Because of this, I can not use a lot of traditional products. Rather than use chemical laced moisturizers, I opt for the more natural route and use coconut oil.
I could spend ages raving about coconut oil, but this is not point of this post. The point is, no matter what makeup I use, within a few hours I look like I have been standing over a fryer. I can powder and blot until I am blue in the face, but by the end of the day people can probably see their reflections in my cheeks. Most primers I have tried are too heavy, and still leave me oily throughout the day. Sure, my makeup is super smooth when applied, but what is the point if there is no staying power?
Enter my savior, Skindinavia. You may or may not be familiar with the brand responsible for your favorite All Nighter Spray, De Slick, or many others from Urban Decay. But they have their own line, and it is spectacular. They have different versions to suit all of your needs, whether you have dry, oily, or mature skin. Whether you need something for that perfect photo finish for your wedding, or just something to wear day to day. They have you covered!
Setting sprays are great, but what's there to help keep the oil separated from your makeup as it builds on your skin? There is nothing in between, and once the two mix there is no going back.
Disheartened, and resigned to my fate with skin so oily you could use me as an SOS beacon, I gave up on the search for the perfect primer. Then, one day at work, I was introduced to the newest product from Skindinavia. Being a fan of their setting sprays, I was intrigued by the idea of a priming spray. And once I saw the Oil Control option, I knew I was in for a treat.
It sprays on in a lightweight, even mist. Though it applies in a thin layer, it fills in pores and fine lines. The initial spray is refreshing, with a cooling sensation. Let it dry for a moment, and you will notice that it doesn't feel tight on your skin. I noticed immediately that the texture of my skin was smoother, and I sprayed just a little extra in my problem areas. Once it was dry, I applied my makeup like normal over it. Everything blended very nicely, and once I was done the overall result was that of silk! I just wanted to caress my own face all day! The true test is to see how it lasts over the day, being at work, touching your face, being out in the sun (this is Souther California, afterall). I noticed a substantial difference, I wasn't nearly as oily as the day progressed.
After a few days, I decided to try using it as a primer AND setting spray, and I tell you it was like magic! My makeup was unmovable, almost to a fault to be honest. The first time I tried it I messed up my mascara and tapped the wand under my eye. That little black spot had to be removed with makeup remover and touched up with foundation/powder etc. Once you seal your makeup between the layers of this stuff, it is not going anywhere. By the end of the day, my makeup looked almost as good as new! Oh, and don't forget that they have the original formula for you lucky ducks who don't have the same oil problems are yours truly!
